I unequivocally stand against hatred, violence, or discrimination of any kind and in any form. I am running for Roseville Mayor to make sure that there is a space for all people, regardless of race, culture, religion, gender, identity, and any means that “other” some residents as less worthy. I have indicated I want to move Roseville “forward” because we are a changing city – and with these changes we become BETTER and ENRICHED in our community experience.

In 2020, shortly after George Floyd was murdered by Minneapolis police officers, and in the midst of the pandemic, there was a spate of hatred on a local level – including in Roseville. Threats, notes, signs, and supportive signs were being stolen. On July 17, 2020, I read this article( https://www.mprnews.org/story/2020/07/17/raccoon-nailed-near-black-lives-matter-sign-in-roseville-police-are-investigating ), and felt action was needed. After meeting with Anita, the person pictured, I brought a group of people together to hold a rally, coined “Roseville Rejects Racism.” Many people were involved in bringing this rally together in just 3 days. On the day of the event, the entire sitting Roseville City Council, the Mayor, the City Manager, the Assistant City Manager, and hundreds of others assembled in a Roseville park to decry these senseless acts. The march was a powerful statement against racism in Roseville, and the phrase “Roseville Rejects Racism” was adopted by the city to run on billboards after the event.

One organizer invited the armed group. Following the event, I learned more and severed all ties with co-organizers because of the Southern Poverty Law Center’s assessment of the attendees.

I’ve never had a conversation with the former mayor who is defaming me in his mailings. He uses race-baiting and insulting terms to question my values and moral character, but also makes it clear that he does not embrace the diversity of BIPOC, LGBTQ, and the wide range of religions that make up our current city. This GOP operative and registered lobbyist is escalating the discourse on racism and, instead of working toward a place devoid of hatred, perpetuating a divide among residents. I have worked tirelessly to embrace “radical hospitality”, where all people are not just welcomed but EMPOWERED to be their true selves. My personal, daily goal is to work against hatred and to instill compassion and kindness. It is why I chose to serve and what inspires me to move forward.
